FIRST PERSON: Dakota youth pastor participates in coaching network
by Joseph Savery
Last Spring I had the opportunity to participate in the “Youth Leader Coaching Network.” This consisted in three online coaching sessions, followed by a two-day event in Alpharetta, Georgia, sponsored by the North American Mission Board (NAMB).
During these sessions I learned many valuable ideas to implement in my own ministry here at Connection Church. There were sessions that focused on dealing with struggles that our students face. Knowing what tools to use in Scripture to aid them and when to refer them to others for support was an important part of the training. I also learned how to create a culture of discipleship in our student ministry and have already started the process for this upcoming semester.
At the in-person event in Georgia, I was encouraged by many other student leaders from all over the country. I had the opportunity to hear from leaders such as Shane Pruitt and Garret Wagoner. I was also able to connect with other student pastors who deal with many of the struggles and triumphs in ministry that I do.
This is a great opportunity whether you are new in student ministry or a 20-year veteran. I strongly encourage you to take part in the next session this fall or join me next spring.
