Longtime Pine Ridge Pastor Goes Home

Franklin ‘Harold’ Heiney went home to be with Jesus on February 4, 2024 at his home in Hot Springs, SD. Harold was born April 23, 1933, in Selkirk, KS to Wateman and Millie (Moore) Heiney.

Dakota Baptists will remember Harold well. He spent over 72 years in ministry to Native Americans in Oklahoma, Montana, and in Pine Ridge, SD. He and his wife Deloris had a great love for the people they lived amongst and poured out their lives to reach them with the gospel and help those they reached to “grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18).

Harold received his education from Oklahoma Baptist University and was a Bible scholar. While studying at OBU and Deloris met. They were married December 23, 1953.

Harold also had a great desire to reach boys and men with the gospel. He was a leader for many years at the annual Royal Ambassador camp at the Ranger Rick Campground at Sheridan Lake in the Black Hills of South Dakota. He also helped organize a yearly men and boys steak fry for the churches of the Black Hills.

Retirement did not slow down Harold’s service to his Lord. As a member of Cascade Road Baptist Church in Hot Springs, SD, he regularly shared the Word. He also conducted weekly Bible study and worship in his apartment complex, the Pine Hills Retirement Community.

Those who knew Harold remember him as “a kind, loving, generous man, appreciative of every little thing. He will be remembered for his gentle, patient manner and thankfulness.”
